It was a few months ago when I mentioned buying my copy of Wreck The Journal by Kerri Smith and so I wanted to show you some of the first pages I have created.
I know... nothing fancy, or awe inspiring, but there is something rather interesting about this little book and the way it makes me feel when I go to use it.
There's an inexplicable sense of freedom in throwing a book on the floor and stamping on it... oh, and the defacing... but it's so strange to me, as it's completely against the grain. After all books are to be respected and adored... I've never broken a spine intentionally, let alone defaced a page of text and I hated writing in pencil on the margins during my English class... HATED IT! So why is it so freeing to break all of those rules?
I almost wish I'd had a copy of this given to me at my first week of art school... it really would have made the transition from strict academia to free, artistic interpretations of art much, much easier.
I can see this would make a great activity book for kids too.
I'll do a follow up post in a month or so...
