The app is very reasonably priced on iTunes and contains the following features;
- A twist angle calculator - a great way to work out the twist of yarns you have in your stash, as well as those you are spinning for.
- A wpi gauge - great for defining the weight of your individual plies and your finished yarn, which is essential for knitting and crochet.
- Various calculators - these are individually designed to mathematically calculate variables you may wish to note in your yarn making. For example a Niddy Noddy calculator for measuring the length of your finished skein.
- TPI Gauge - Twist per inch gauge
- A ruler
- Some reference links
Each section comes with instructions, so if you are a novice then the help is there.
I would personally recommend the app for its basic uses and have used elements of it to work on my spinning. It is easy to use and basic enough to understand terms you may not have come across before. I don't use everything on there as I haven't need to. This may be because I'm not a 'by the book' spinner, however that's not to say these elements are not useful in their own right. If I were to spin for a sweater I may consider being much more technical in my spin. The great things is that when I need to work on those elements the calculations and measurements are there.
I have heard and read that some other reviews have been less 'pro' sole use of the app, opting for physical wpi gauges over screen ones for safely determining results, however I think this is a personal choice... My recommendation is try the app and see if it suits your needs... It has worked for me so far.
