Ravellenic Games 2012 - knitting monsters!

P663

I thought I'd have a go at a knit-along during the Olympics and as on Ravelry there is a group for such a knit-along I thought I'd join. It works similarly to the Tour de Fleece, in that you play along on teams. I joined Team Knitabulls run by Diane over in the Knitabulls podcast www.knitabullspodcast.blogspot.com

The aim of the games is to knit as many monsters as you can. To be honest I may only manage one, as I have a lot of work to do this August... But I'm keen to have a go. I decided it's high time to try a Rebecca Danger pattern!

Are you playing along? If so what are you knitting/crocheting?

Tour de Fleece 2012... The final weight in!

With the Tour de Fleece now over I calculated the final finished yarns.

For the Manx fleece, so far;

4 skeins of chunky weight yarn at around 448g and 418.28m.

I still have unplied singles in the wheel and a standard size bobbin and some of my 'Yellow Jersey' BFL/Sparkle singles, which were also spun during the tour... Phew!

How did you do?

Bye for now,

Ilfracoombe, Devon 2012.

Finally some sun!
To make the most if it and a rare day off from shows and work, I wanted to treat D to a day out.

When I heard about Ilfracoombe's tunnel beaches, I thought this would be perfect... We loved rock pooling as kids.

We bought a net and headed down to the rocks...

There wasn't much to catch today, but we did have fun.

I recommend it if you are in the area and know we'll definitely go back.

Hope you had a lovely weekend too!

Bye for now,
Sara x

Customer Photos: Jane's Felted Handspun Bag

I usually see Jane at shows and events... she and her sister are very much the fibre addicts like me, so it was great to see her at the Exeter WSD guild's fleece day last Saturday (as it was to see Susan, who I told you of yesterday).

Jane showed me her wonderful felted Domino bag... it's fab isn't it?!

Here's a close up...

Jane used a hand spun yarn she made from one of my Merino Silk blends... Strawberry Sundae, along with other hand spuns and commercial wools.

You can find my blend at http://sarastexturecrafts.com/category/598-blended-fibre-for-spinning-or-felt-making.aspx

I love the colour choices for this bag and think it would be a great way to use up those handspun scraps... might have to hunt out a pattern on www.Ravelry.com later!

Thank you for sharing Jane.

Customer Photos: Susan's Berry Cardigan

Susan is one of my customer's from the Exeter WSD guild's fleece day on Saturday. She didn't want to be photographed up close, but did want me to show off her knitting... fair enough and thank you! I spied Susan early on, wondering if the cardi was indeed made in colourway 'Berry' and it was great to discover that it was!

Susan was up the night before finishing off, so that she could show me... that's a dedicated knitter for you!

It was lovely to see how the colours pooled and repeated... it was also very hard to see where one skein joined another, which is tricky when using hand dyed batches. Susan was very proud and so was I... it's always great to see how my fluff knits up. Thank you Susan!

It's also great to see how customers wear the fluff they spin or knit with... for example Susan wore her cardigan with a matching top and darker trousers... even her necklace complimented the greens. I loved her style... it really made the knitting sing. I think that's important when you spend hours on something...

You can find Berry more DK colourways here.... http://sarastexturecrafts.com/category/610-double-knit-weight-yarn-for-knitting.aspx
