Shop Update 27th April 2012 - gradient batts, hand dyed fleece, silks and fleece wash!

Welcome to the next shop update!

Today is all about Hand dyed silk fibres, fleece, Prefelt and gradient batts! Oh, and a new product for those who wish to process their own fleeces… Unicorn Power scour and gift sets;

Unicorn Power Scour is a unique formula designed to deeply clean oily/waxy fibres (like wool and mohair) as well as less waxy fibres (alpaca, cashmere and the finest angora) while protecting the vital fibre cuticle. Power Scour enables the strength and natural beauty of the fibre to carry through to garments, rugs, or into the hands of talented craftsmen. Power Scour optimises the cleaning of raw, greasy fleece, and gets the grease out:

* reduces mats and tangles, increasing fibre yield
* eliminates build-up of cleaning agents
* non-yellowing
* cleans at low, energy-saving temperatures
* leaves fibre with a clean, fresh aroma

16oz (473ml) bottle with wash up to 20lbs (9kg) of fibre, which is a couple of good size fleeces. I use this for processing many of my fleeces and have had very good results.

If you want a closer look at some of these, then I will be mentioning them on my last podcast at http://dreaminginfibre.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/episode-10-knitting-kick-and-noro-fail.html

Sniff, sniff, sneeze!

I woke up this morning to several things;

An Etsy treasury feature... Thank you Rhoda L!

My shopping bags for my shopping trip to Wonderwool... Couldn't stay away even though I'm not showing this year!

And a cold... From allergies to reskeining fluff and a chill from the weather :( I'm determined it won't stop me though, so I'm off to wrap up warm and dose myself up so I can feel better for Wonderwool.

Enjoy your day, wrap up warm and I'll be back tomorrow with the shop update at www.sarastexturecrafts.com

Feels productive, but doesn't look like much!

One of those days yesterday... You know the ones! I spent the morning spinning, working on a batch of mini skeins and I reskeined yarn for the rest of the day. I do ache this morning... But yet it doesn't look like I got much further! This is making me feel a bit anxious. You know me... Obsessive worrying leads to panic attacks :( and I'm trying to avoid this, so today I'm going to dye a batch of yarn... That will look like a lot more work and hopefully make me feel a bit better about it all.

As an aside I got a new book through the post... I'm going to reward myself this weekend with some time to knit and read a bit. I'll be working on some swatches for the show, but in a much more relaxed weekend-way.

I think I'm just at that point where I don't think I'll get everything done on time... A big push over the next few weeks and I think there will be light. I just need to plough on...

What are you working on today?

Easter sit, knit and eat.

We were planning to have family over this bank holiday weekend for barbecues, but the weather is just not on our side... Should have done it last week in our mini heat wave!

Instead... Well I'd love to tell you that we have lots planned, but no... Instead we are feeling lazy. My reasoning is that I worked overtime on my production this week and labelled everything in Thursday for the Devon County Show (readying myself for the next batch!) So this weekend is all about gaming for D and knitting, reading the new Mollie Makes and catching up on watching podcasts. Having said that I do have some Leicester Longwool and Teeswater in the dye pots... But that's minimal work really.

Oh and we bought some veg that's new to us... So I'm planning on cooking this up. The first which looks like a large brown nut, is an Eddoes... It says I can cook it pretty much like a potato, so I'm assuming it's like a yam?? The green aubergine/courgette looking veg is a Dudhi, which I've been told to roast... Looks interesting anyway, so we'll give them a go.

We did stop off at the Crediton garden centre too... Got my tomato plants, which I planted straight away (whilst noticing the potatoes have grown so much already!) Just 80p each... I love my garden centre!

What ever you at doing this Easter, I hope you have fun.

Fleece Club 2012 Spin-along, Knit-along Competition.

Welcome to the competition!

Experiment and try something new, share what you make for a chance to win 500g of your favourite new breed!

Rules:

as an aside note: Please keep chatter to club content only for ease of moderation. If you have questions related to the club, please contact me here the website.

Fleece club is a 3 month delivery of fleece from this year’s clip.

The idea is that you will be introduced to varying breeds of sheep throughout the offer. These will be in small amounts that are easy to wash and process, giving you something new to play with in your spinning and felt making.

So how does it work and what do you get? There is one easy payment at the checkout and this pays for the 3 deliveries. Each delivery will contain;

  • 3 x 50g of unwashed fleece, skirted and sorted.
  • Information about the fleece you have received and recommendations for washing, processing and spinning… if they differ from the basic instructions.
  • The first delivery will include basic washing and processing instructions.

Breeds may vary depending on what I can source from Farmers, but could include; Ryeland, Massam, Teeswater/Kerry Hill Cross, Wensleydaye, Teeswater, Manx Loagthan, Romney Marsh, Shetland, Leicester Longwool, Zwartbles, or Gotland.

Colours will vary too. So for example, if I give you a white Teeswater sample, then you may receive a black Wensleydale sample. This will vary your sampling, so that you can keep track of the fleece as you spin or felt it and also introduce you to the wonderful natural shades available.

Join up and try something new today!

Devon County Show Labelling

P271

I have a tonne of labelling and reskeining to do this week... Now I know I have a month before the show, but I really need to get the completed stock ready, a) so that I have an idea of where I'm at and b) so that I have room to dry new stock!

First I have to get my shop update ready for listing late Thursday afternoon...

Wish me luck... I think it might be a long 'short week'!
