Tutorial: How to Make Wool Covered Soap

A great beginners tutorial here… How to make wool covered soap, written by Mariana, one of the How to Make Contributors.

For this you can use Merino, but you could also use BFL, Corriedale, Cheviot, Falkland. Here's my fibre shop to help… FIBRE SHOP

Why not have a go with the Children this Summer?

I did this last year, love the idea but had a problem with the dye from the wool bleeding after it was felted. I tried a bunch of different colors. What can I do to prevent this in the future.

woll will always fade over time, so an amount of dye release should be expected. Usually reds seem to be the worse.

What can also effect the colour release is the soap it's self. I find that soaps that are gentle (vegetable, or olive based) work best. They are more PH neutral. Acids in soap and detergents can be harmful to wool colour and fibre, which is why wool jumpers are often gentle handwash items. The same will be true of any felted item that you wear, or wash with.

I hope this helps?
