Kaffe Fassett inspired project

I've always lived Kaffe Fassett's colour and pattern choices... So bold and well thought out.

It's something I always wanted to take as inspiration for a larger project... So I bought myself some wool in varying colours...

And I'm going to start planning.

Growing!

I'm really pleased this year...

I learnt loads about growing veggies last year and so have tried new things this year, like mini sweet corn...

Lots of ornamental herbs...

And beautiful flowers like African Marigolds (which are still too small to flower)

I'm growing in tubs and containers this season as we are still hoping to move... I want to make sure I get to take it all with me!

Woolfest Saturday

Saras been working hard on her demo today...

She's starting the arms... But it's so hot I'm not sure how far she will get.

Even the animals like this Painted Shetland found it tough... I did see Sara carrying several fleeces which will keep you all supplied with batts, once she's washed and carded them though!

We'd like to thank all of our visitors today, many new and already addicted fibre addicts... Which we served with pleasure. Special thanks to Katharine who stopped by to catch up.

Tonight, dinner at Tebay...

Perfect end to a perfect day!

Photographed and copyright by Darrin at Sara's Texture Crafts.

Woolfest Friday!

Wow, what a day!

I finished faffing with the stock and was finally pleased with the result...

This is me part way through the day... Phew it's hot and I'm a little bewildered at just how busy it's been.

Thank you to everyone who came to see me, especially to Lindsey who brought me some wonderful Portland fleece and to Katharine who's always great support and inspiration.

Even Darrin had sit down bless him! (Now get back to work!!)

Do you remember my demo from Wonderwool? Well this was the last photo of it.

Today I progressed a little bit, as well as making a few changes...

He looks a bit like a cross between Yoda and some kind of gremlin!

Just been for a walk and enjoying the sunny evening with my book (and the blog!)

Woolfest... Setting up

Most of today went by in a bit of a blur... A long drive can do that to you.

But we did get here ok...

We managed to set up ok... Will finish tinkering tomorrow morning. I always feel under pressure seeing everyone else set up, so off to read outside the tent for me... ( looking quite shattered!)

And up bright and early for a big fry up and to relook at the stall before we open.

P.S. I've already seen far too much I want to buy!!

Changling sort of finds somewhere...!

Ok so selling/buying didn't happen quick enough and I'm bursting at the seams... So much so that we've been looking at renting larger premises. Well today I found somewhere I think we could be very happy and deposit in we are waiting to hear... But the thing is on their terms they state that they can take deposits from as many people as they like and then choose who they want... Even though we were first in! Is that even allowed?! Surely not?!

So while I should be really happy, I'm actually really stressed now, while I'm waiting until Monday to speak to someone in charge! Please wish me luck, I'm feeling really quiet sick!!

Woolfest Planning - Part 2

Ok so it's June and not long to go... As we speak I have fibre on order ready to start carding and creating.

It's always a little but easier after you have done one show in a year... You have paperwork and stock plans already to go... It's just the making stock that really takes the time.

I'll be back soon to show you how I'm getting on.

Fibres, yarns and fabrics in the past, so why not more?

I got this new book to give me a bit of extra inspiration! This book is called 'the yarn lover's guide to hand dyeing' by Linda La Belle.

Product of the Month - June 2010

Silk Noil

Noils are the waste product of combing silk tops and are sometimes termed as ‘raw’ fibre, because of their pulp-like appearance. Noils are perfect for papermaking, and blending into rolags for spinning, or layers of detail for felt making.

Check out my ‘How to Make’ website for Mariana’s tutorial on How to use Silk Fibres in Felt making.

Press here for my full range of Silk Noil 25g shade packs.

A curious happening...

We've had this cactus for about 5-6, maybe 7 years and not once has it flowered... But this last week these little brown, 'cotton' buds appeared.

So D and I have been waiting like expectant parents to see if it will flower... D thought it might be a man-eating triffid!

While I thought we might have pretty pink tipped White flowers.

Today I came home from having popped into Exeter (and bumping into a customer who sells Nuno scarves with my fibre... And they were beautiful, so do check out the felt lady in the Market on the high street between the Catherderal and what was St. George's Market!)... And I found the cactus had started to flower!

We were both wrong, but these yellow flowers are going to be stunning! Yay!
