I'm always in awe of other feltmakers' work... each artist's inspiration and hand style is so different... it always gives me something new to think about!
The wet felted scarves pictured below are contributions from one of my best
fibre customers, Carol. Aren't they stunning!

Carol's creations come about, in part by playing with her fibre selections... Carol picks a colour, changes her mind and then proceeds at will... Not a bad technique, I often employ this one myself!
Carol has mastered her technique by trial and error, like most of us and more interestingly has used the internet to find her way around new techniques, rather than traditional classes.
'I gleaned the information from library books and a youtube video after seeing some lovely pieces on the internet.
I lay down a sheet of bubble wrap which can be used as a template and place the fibres down vertically and put another layer at a 45 degree angle, mixing the colours as I go, cover the section in a nylon based piece of material and using a sponge soak the area with olive oil soapy water, agitate the surface for a few minutes, peel back the cloth and agitate a little more, sometimes I use hot water, other times not, I may rub the soap into the surface a little too if I want to carry on with the felting process if I have added extra pieces after peeling away the nylon cloth. Once felted if you use wet hands to add extra pieces for definition and texture you can achieve a tail like effect. Roll up the bubble wrap and felt into a Swiss roll, secured with rubber bands or tie up. Roll it backwards and forwards approximately 200 times (I cheat, 150 maybe... Sara says... 'hey, so do I!'). Gently unwrap and fold and then drop onto the work surface about 20 times. Rinse in cold water. Sometimes it's necessary to go back if some areas are a little thin or some extra texture or another feature needs to be added, circles or flowers for instance. I have tried unsuccessfully to wet felt onto a silk scarf but these scarves are what I did manage to produce!'

Thank you Carol for sharing your work... They are wonderful. I can't wait to see what you create next!
