Sara's Relocation: Pangs of Longing...

No idea why, but today I woke up listing the places I'll miss (in London) in my head... Well actually I do. I had to say my first face to face goodbye yesterday. I've known my hairdresser for about 12 years now, so she's really a family friend to me and D. She's been through all of the crazy fashion student haircuts and been the driving force behind some of the colour choices too... more than that she's been a mate to confide in and support when things have been tough for us. I couldn't help but cry when I got home!

I'm sure it's only natural to get these pangs of longing... I was born and bred in South London you see, until my parents moved to Devon when I was 17. I absolutely hated it there, then at least... I really missed the nightlife and friends I had in London you see. I guess I had trouble fitting in in the small village my parents chose, so it was only a few years later that I came back to London to go to University, with D in tow (we met at art college, which was the only real redeeming feature of my time in Devon). We've now been here 13 years! And together for 14...

So why are you moving back you say? Well, in truth it wasn't Devon we craved when we decided to move away... it was green space. It's only the last 5 years that we started discussing our real future life together and decided on a greener life style. Before that we sort of drifted... careers took over and we both lived in the moment, no future plans... I guess that's what happens. When Granddad died last year, I knew it was really time to concerntrate on our future, before our real future became our past.

So why Devon, then? Why not somewhere else? With both our families down there, it did seem like the easiest and quickest route to getting to our dream future... so D started the transfer process back in January and now in mid April we have the confirmation through. We are not planning to live in the same places, as we did before... new place, new adventure is what we need. I'm just hoping that we can find somewhere a little bigger than our one bed flat... I'll let you know how we go...

I hope that you have a wonderful move! My husband and I have been thinking about moving to the countryside at some point. Right now we live in the suburb of a large city. Even though we have a small yard, I'd love to have room for some sheep and other animals some day. Best wishes!
