Check out the many new titles in my craft shop at http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Saras Texture Crafts, like this great book on Carding by Jo Reeve.
Ashford Book of Carding by Jo Reeve
RRP £13.50
92 pages.
The Ashford Book Of Carding by J. Reeve originally published in 2006: covers carding tools, fibre properties, flick carding, hand carding, drum carding, fibre blending, colour theory, colours and colour blending, sampling (Andean plying), plus projects (self-striping socks, mittens, shawl, and Merino and silk scarf). There are also many colour photos to help you on your way.
Sara says:
The first chapter takes you through 'what is carding?', the tools involved and a little about fibres. The next chapters are dedicated to the carding methods, including 3-4 pages on Flick carding with some really good pictures, so that you can follow the processes at home. The author then goes onto discuss colour and fibre blending, which I think is invaluable for beginners, as she also includes a bit more information on the different types of fibres out there and the types of projects you can make from them. At the end of the book there is also a look at Ashford products, including spinning wheels, which I think is quite handy (and remember I am supplied by Ashfords, so if ever you are looking for anything from their range I can get hold of it).
There are also 4 knitting projects which use the fibre blending and carding processes learned and used in your spinning to make yarn.
If you are new to carding like me then, this looks like quite a handy beginner's book... I might get myself a copy so that I can start making carded fibre blends for the shop!
